Youth mental health first aid

Mental illnesses often starts in adolescence or early adulthood. This course will help you identify and assist adolescents who are:

  • Developing a mental health problem
  • Experiencing a worsening of a mental health problem; or
  • Experiencing a mental health crisis.

Adults such as parents, guardians, teachers, school staff, sports coaches, youth workers, and others who are in regular contact with young people, will find this course invaluable. You will learn practical skills and gain confidence to detect problems early to ensure the young person is properly treated and supported.

Course topics cover developing mental health problems, depression, anxiety problems, psychosis, eating disorders and substance use problems, as well as suicide and other mental health crises.

Participants will receive a Mental Health First Aid manual and are eligible to become an accredited mental health first aider.
